Ford Motor Company has announced that the legendary Thunderbird nameplate will
end production in July, 2005 and will be put in the "Future-Product Vault".
"We promised all along that this Thunderbird would have a limited production
run, and we're being true to our word," explains Steve Lyons, Ford Division
president. "Thunderbird was a terrific image builder for the Ford brand
showroom at a time when we needed it. Now, we're in the midst of a major product
onslaught, including more news on the Mustang at this month's New York Auto
Show."
The first Ford Thunderbird went on sale in 1954 and continued until 1997 where
it was put on hold until 2001. In 2001 Ford re-launched the Thunderbird as a
retro style roadster similar to the 1955 model. During its lifetime, the Thunderbird
went through 12 redesigns ranging from sedan, coupe, luxury, convertible and
finally a roadster. The Thunderbird was awarded the Motor Trend Car of the Year
in 1958 and 1987. The Thunderbird totaled 4.3 million units sold from 1954.
The 2005 Ford Thunderbird MSRP ranges from $37,895 to $38,940 and the Invoice
Price ranges from $34,816 to $35,756. The Thunderbird also has $1,000 rebate
